I was astounded when our LCD laptop monitor cracked and I was told it would cost hundreds of dollars to replace it. I wound up buying a refurbished laptop instead, as it was a cheaper solution. I also kept the old laptop with the cracked screen and hooked it up to a monitor I had lying around from a desktop years ago. I had no idea I could take out the screen myself and replace it – now I am wondering what the cost of a screen is, without the labor.

I appreciate the step by step instructions, it is much better to consult a technician just to make sure you will not completely damage your laptop.

Very helpful information indeed. Points taken, thanks for sharing. A back up is always needed in case of emergency such as this. I would say not to wait for any noticeable defect in your laptop before you create a back up. It is amazing how expensive replacement LCDs are for laptops. We replace them all the time and it is a lot cheaper to buy a monitor with a stand than replacing an LCD.

It’s always a bad time when the LCD starts acting up it seems. Recovering data before its comletely gone is very important and a great point bc many people lose information by not backing up as soon as they start seeing the screen go dark.
